Surviving Guest Damage: Rolling With the Punches

Finding Humor and Grit When Hosting Gets Messy

Hosting a rental is full of moments that teach patience—and sometimes improvisational repair skills. When we welcomed our most recent guests, we didn’t expect a clogged sink and a couch with a back broken clean through. (Our plumber is now on speed dial!)

    Expecting the Surprises

If there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that surprises come standard. Calling in the pros felt routine. The sink was taken care of, but just as we breathed easy, our trusty couch was declared “structurally unsound.” It’s amazing what creative solutions can come from necessity—a new cloud couch arrived in a box, magically transformed into the comfiest spot in the house, and made us wonder why couches ever needed frames to begin with.

    Document, Repair, Repeat

Every host’s secret weapon? Snap photos and jot notes when things go sideways. Whether it’s furniture, plumbing, or the occasional “what is that in the microwave?” moment, a little preparation goes a long way toward a smoother fix.

    Playing the Long Game

Through all the quirks and chaos, one reminder always keeps us grounded: owning rentals is a long-term adventure. Each challenge is a small chapter in a much bigger story. Roll with it, find the laughter, and know that every new fix brings you closer to becoming a seasoned (and maybe slightly unflappable) host.

Why We Host: Memories That Matter

What makes every challenge worth it? Our guests. We truly love welcoming amazing people to our home and watching them make lifelong memories—whether it’s gathering for special celebrations, enjoying the pool, or simply finding a little peace away from their routines. Being a part of those moments brings real joy, and it’s the reason we keep rolling with the punches, ready for the next unforgettable stay.

There’ll be frustrations. There’ll also be a sense of pride every time you come out the other side—sometimes with a new couch, sometimes with a great story to tell, and always with heartfelt gratitude for the wonderful guests who visit.
